We love to create opportunities for our middle and high school students to build community and grow in their faith. Our volunteer leaders do a great job of coming alongside parents and families to help guide students in their walk with God. Here are a few of those opportunities.

Below is a list of what's going on:
Get to know Our Deacons
Deacons are servant leaders. In scripture we see them meeting the physical needs of the believers in need. And though it is a very spiritual calling, their ministry manifests in very tangible and often physical ways. If you have a need, a deacon will do what they can to help meet that need. In scripture we see both men and women serving in the role of deacon and we are happy to see this diversity in our group.

This group of men and women were carefully chosen by our elders based on their personal experience with these individuals and on:
-
their character (especially based on 1 Timothy 3:8–13)
-
involvement in our church family
-
and the display of leadership ability
They meet together regularly for prayer and discussion. They work under the guidance and leadership of our elders to meet needs and serve the body of Christ as is needed
Meet our deacons! (Listed alphabetically)
Quinn Barefoot
Deacon
Quinn has been with Venture since 2017 and has helped lead Women’s Retreats and build Women's Ministry. She serves regularly on the Host Team and loves her Small Group. She is passionate about women's ministry, hospitality, and loves gathering together with a group of ladies to encourage one another in their faith.

Her favorite thing about Venture is the young adults small group and community.

She says, “We learn a lot by studying God's word together weekly. I also love that we are all invited to each other's birthday parties, wedding, baby showers and special life celebrations.”

In her free time she loves to bake, do arts and crafts, run, and walk their dog.

Her husband, Caleb, plays Electric Guitar in the band. He has also done an amazing job working with the construction team in planning and renovating the new building!
Susan Best
Deacon
Susan and her family have been with Venture since 2019.
She says, “Helping people find community and a place to grow is a passion of mine. The right community helps people feel connected and gives them a safe place to grow. Creating environments where others can deepen their relationship with others and with Jesus will allow them to contribute to the kingdom of God on another level!
Susan loves small group, Adventure Mondays with other homeschool friends from Church, and inviting people to read through the Bible annually. Her favorite thing to do with the church is the Family Camping at Camp Kirkwood!
Her husband Travis serves as a safety volunteer for kids. Her daughters, Emery and Maris, serve regularly on Sundays with Venture Kids.
Melissa KinG
Deacon
Melissa Has been with Venture for 9 years with her Husband Jeremy and and loves to reach out to as many people as possible to teach them about the love and mercy of our God. She regularly serves as a leader and teacher for Venture Kids and even headed up 4th- 5th grade VBS.
Her favorite thing about Venture is the many activities we do in the community.
She says, “My favorite memories have been the camping trips and retreats and the effort that has been taken to make sure we really know one another. From physical needs to spiritual needs they will be met at Venture. I love the grace that we show in our very words of shining light into dark places because we all have dark places. I have been a Christian my whole life, but I am learning that I have only scratched the surface of what I know and what I can do when I dig deep into the Word of God. I’m very excited for my future walk with God alongside my church family.”
Melissa loves that Venture does our best to help people. Her favorite times have been the camping trips and retreats we do. She loves camping and working with her hands and always has projects to work on.
Her husband Jeremy has been very involved with the production team and was instrumental in getting our streaming church service up and running during and after the Pandemic. Her two sons are involved with the youth.
Brent Myers
Deacon
Brent and his wife Emelie moved to Wilmington in 2013 to join the Woolard family in planting Venture Church. Since then, the Myers have been instrumental leaders in our church family in many ways.
Brent says, “I believe God has gifted me with a passion to love and serve kids, to show them what it looks like to be like Jesus. I'm also passionate about the role of prayer in our spiritual lives. I want to encourage more of it in our church and provide more opportunities for others to join in prayer.”
Brent was our Children's Director for the first 5 yrs of Venture's beginning, he’s been a small group leader, graphic designer, kids and teens teacher, band member (guitar), and most recently the 2023 Cornhole Champion (alongside the great Richard Godwin). He’s a skilled designer and artist and loves Basketball and being outdoors with family.

The Myers have also been a foster family since 2015 and thank their Venture church family forby their side as each child comes into their care.
His favorite part of Venture Church is the authenticity and genuineness of our people. Week in and week out, people truly care about one another in the way they interact.
His son Jacob serves with the Production team. His daughter, Peyton, loves serving on the host team, and his youngest daughter, Lilly, loves serving herself the free mints that Venture's host team offers on Sundays! :) (Brent's words)
