Lamp Lighters

This past Sunday, in our “Lamp Lighter” series, we saw that the light of God gives us navigation. And one of the big points was that “God’s Word Gives Direction.” You may have questions about the reliability of the Bible. You may also be unsure about where to begin as read it. Below are some resources that will be very helpful.

Is the Bible Reliable?

The Bible is the number 1 best-selling book of all times. It’s the source of inspiration for millions and within its pages, it claims to be the very word of God.

The Nabonidus Chronicle: Archeology proving the story of Daniel

stand_series_slider

This week in our series through the book of Daniel, we discussed a famous archeological discovery called the “Nabonidus Chronicle.” In the message, we discussed that discovery of this tablet was a huge proof of the reliability of the Bible.

The Nabonidus Chronicle

The Nabonidus Chronicle

In Daniel 5 there’s a king of Babylon mentioned named Belshazzar. Historians had a record of all the kings of Babylon through history but Belshazzar was never mentioned. So, fairly, many concluded that the Bible had it wrong. Until 1956; archeologists discovered the inscription.

Game Plan: The Book of Philippians

game-plan-web-slider

We plan ahead for beach days, dates, and grocery shopping. And failure to plan often ends up being a life lesson. If you have ever found yourself stranded on the side of the road because you forgot to fill up with gas then you know exactly what that’s about.

It seems like common sense that heartache and headache can avoided with proper planning. Yet somehow it’s so easy to find ourselves struggling with spiritual matters and wondering how in the world we got where we are. But… it’s never too late to start working on a plan. This month we’ll be diving into the New Testament book of Philippians where we’ll see that the Apostle Paul has given us an awesome game plan for seeking God and living life He created us for!

Don’t miss a week of “Game Plan: The Book of Philippians.”

At The Movies: Heroes Edition

AT THE MOVIES BLOGH EADERThere is something about Super Hero stories that just gets our attention. Maybe it’s the dream of being more than “just normal.” or maybe it’s because most people genuinely wish they could make the world a better place. Maybe it’s our unquenchable desire for really expensive special-effects-packed-summer-blockbuster-hits?

One of the coolest things about God, is that ANYTHING can be a launching pad into a conversation about Him and His truth. When we see the world through the redemptive story of Jesus, EVERYTHING looks different. So, starting on August 28th, we’re going to do something kinda awesome at Venture Church. For our annual Movie Series we’ll be pulling out the costumes and secret identities for “At The Movies: Super Heroes Edition” Each week we’ll use a new super hero story as the spring board to dive deeper into learning about God and studying the Bible.

Which Heroes will we use? Well.. you’ll have to come to find out. But my guess is, you won’t be disappointed!

Grab some popcorn, put on your favorite super hero T-shirt, invite a friend … and meet us at Alderman Elementary School for “At the Movies: Super Hero Edition.” See you there!

Jonah

One of the most well known stories from the Bible is the wild story of Jonah… Yeah, the one with the big fish. But it’s actually not a story about a big fish at all. It’s the story about our Big God and what he wants for the world. Jonah spends the whole book running. Sometimes with God, sometimes from God, and sometimes back… sound familiar? Don’t miss week one of this summer teaching series “The Story of Jonah: Man on the Run.” Starts this Sunday at Venture Church!

Beautiful Contrast: Volume 2

BeautifulContrast_WebSlider

Beginning June 26, we’ll begin the second installment of our “Beautiful Contrast” series.

We’ve already taken a 6 week look through Jesus’ words in Matthew chapter 5. But there is so much more in the 3 chapter section of Jesus’ teaching known as “The Sermon on the Mount.” In this section of teaching it can be seen that, not only does Jesus promise spiritual renewal and salvation to those who follow him BUT ALSO those who follow him can live in such a way that the WORLD is changed around them simply by their presence.

The way Christians should live should not just be “different” than the world… but a “Beautiful Contrast!” We should be shining light in dark places, loving the unloved, serving the under-privileged, bringing hope to the hopeless.

This is the most concentrated collection of Jesus teachings in the Bible and it’s going to be both challenging and life altering to take them in as a church family! Don’t miss a week of Beautiful Contrast.

A Beautiful Contrast: The Sermon on the Mount

Why would someone want to be a Christian? There are so many options when it comes to world-view, so why is it that Christians believe that theirs is “the best” or somehow the most desirable to God? That’s a pretty profound question and there might be dozens of great answers. Chief of which is the claim that Christians hold of Jesus being God in the flesh who came to offer forgiveness of sins! But is there more? Are there tangible elements of Christianity? Elements of the faith that can be seen? Measured? Touched?

In the book of Matthew, we have a 3 chapter section of Jesus’ teaching called “The Sermon on the Mount.” In this section of teaching it can be seen that, not only does Jesus promise spiritual renewal and salvation to those who follow him BUT ALSO those who follow him can live in such a way that the WORLD is changed around them simply by their presence.

The way Christians should live should not just be “different” than the world… but a “Beautiful Contrast!” We should be shining light in dark places, loving the unloved, serving the under-privileged, bringing hope to the hopeless.

Since the sermon on the Mount is packed with content, we’ll be taking our time with it. “Beautiful Contrast: Studying the Sermon on the Mount” will begin May 8th and will last 5 weeks. We’ll take a few weeks intermission over the summer to talk about something else and then dive in to part two later.

This is the most concentrated collection of Jesus teachings in the Bible and it’s going to be both challenging and life altering to take them in as a church family! Don’t miss a week of Beautiful Contrast.

God For the Rest of Us – Starts Easter Sunday

God For the Rest of Us

Join us at Venture Church on Easter Sunday and for the 5 weeks following as we start “God for the Rest of Us!” As Church for people who don’t like Church

, our goal is to tear down the walls that have kept people away from Church and God so that we can build a bridge to the one thing that matters most… Jesus!

There is an idea among some people that God has a limited field of vision. Like he’s forgotten some people or isn’t interested in others. Or maybe the only path to God is to somehow earn his love by being super religious, a goody-goody or having your life all “put together”. But that’s not the message we see in the Bible! Instead, what we see is that God is all about people with problems! He’s FOR skeptics and the confused, FOR the broken marriages and FOR dysfunctional families, Read more…

Acts: The New Church

The following is a extra thought and study for our current teaching series: Acts – When God Sparks a Movement.

We’ve been studying through the book of Acts on Sundays but we won’t be taking the time to go through every single verse in the book of Acts during our 8 week series. There is SO much more to the book than we will cover on Sundays. So here is a bonus study that really ties the first church to the modern church. L

et’s finish up a section from chapter two that we didn’t get to last week. It really speaks for itself but it’s a great check-in on what immediately began to happen once the Holy Spirit began helping the early Christians. Read more…
